John McEnroe comparing broken rackets with art

While answering questions from Twitter, the Superbrat came across a question from a user, Ian, who questioned why are rackets broken and why not give it to fans in the stand, instead? Indeed, an altruistic thing to do. However, McEnroe, who has had his share of tantrums and episodes of breaking rackets, gave a bizarre reply.

He said, “How about we compromise? We break a tennis racket, and then you give it to fans in the stands… I would hope that if you got a racket from Nick Kyrgios in a moment of his frustration, that you’d maybe hang it, put it up somewhere, frame it, not use it…. ‘Oh, I’m hitting with a Novak Djokovic’s racket which he broke in a fit of anger.’”

No one is a stranger in the tennis realm to the tantrums of Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios. This year, the Australian was fined for AU$11,000(US$7,500) for his outbursts at the US Open. Kyrgios broke four rackets in succession after losing his quartefinal clash against Karen Khachanov. If the Aussie had gone by the words of McEnroe, fans would be having hoards of broken rackets to showcase in their houses, if Kyrgios’ match is on.

Moreover, in the same interview, the 7-time Grand Slam champion went on to compare art and broken rackets. He said, “No, I think you would have it like a piece of art or something. And Be happy that maybe you have a racket at all. So we can both be winners.”

Certainly not an answer Ian would have expected. However, McEnroe has always been open about his unfiltered views, and never shied away from expressing it.

Paparazzi surely doesn’t feature on the good side of the tennis legend, as he also considers them a reason for his failed marriage with Academy Award-winning actress Tatum O’Neal. However, recently he went ballistic for another reason.

While remembering the people’s princess, Princess Diana and narrating one compassionate incident with the princess, the 7-time Grand Slam champion expressed his disappointment about the way the papparazzi chased her around the world, which ultimately became the reason for the princess’s demise. And this fact still makes the Superbrat sick.
