Carlos Alcaraz emerged as the champion of the ATP Next Gen Finals 2021. The Spaniard defeated Sebastian Korda in straight sets to lift the title. Interestingly, with his exemplary performances in 2021, the 18-year-old managed to impress even World No.1 Novak Djokovic.

It has been a great year for Carlos Alcaraz. The 18-year-old broke into headlines after he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in a five-set marathon encounter at the US Open 2021.

Novak Djokovic applauds Carlos Alcaraz after a great season

In a recent interview, Djokovic highlighted that Alcaraz has been phenomenal on the court this year and accomplished some huge milestones. He even mentioned that just like his idol, Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz has already entered the list of the top-30 ATP players despite being so young.

“What Alcaraz achieved this year is historic. Like his idol Rafa, he is so young, but already a Top 30 player,” said Djokovic in the interview.

“He’s showing great maturity”- Djokovic on Alcaraz

In the same interview, the Serbian legend hailed Alcaraz’s temperament and consistency on the court. He stated that the rising star has been really impressive and has shown some great signs of maturity as such a young age.

“He’s impressive and he’s showing great maturity for his age, on and off the court,” added the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

If Carlos turns out to be anything like Rafa, it’ll be a huge achievement for the young Spaniard. And for the sake of tennis fans across the world, we sure hope he does.

Novak Djokovic is currently in Turin, Italy and is playing at the ATP Finals 2021. Interestingly, the World No.1 player recently defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets and got off to a great start. Will he be able to succeed at the ATP Finals for the sixth time this year and end his season on a high?
