Local Tennis Community Unites to Mourn the Passing of 16-Year-Old Promising American Tennis Prodigy

Unfortunately, death is an eventuality of life. However, understanding that logic does not make it any passing easier. Recently, news of an unfortunate demise of an up-and-coming tennis player came out of South Bend, Indiana. David Filer, a young and promising tennis player, succumbed to Brain Cancer on March 13. To add to their pain, his family has been unable to afford the fees of a proper funeral. But the residents of the city have taken it upon themselves to see that they raise enough funds for young Filer’s funeral.
David Filer was addicted to tennis ever since he won his first tournament, aged seven. Considered a “Blue-chip” player, Filer ranked top 10 in the country at the age of 10. David and his family were hoping that the young man’s potential of a college scholarship and a chance at pro circuit would be on the horizon, which makes his passing all the more tragic.

In a video published on YouTube by the channel NewsRandom, the details of David Filer’s passing were made public. Filer was an elite national junior player who had a certified future in tennis. Filer was a fierce tennis player who was known in his community as someone who never gave up. It was his tenacity and dedication that painted a bright future for him. His obituary detailed his accomplishments in tennis before his passing.

Unfortunately, David received a diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforme, a tumor that affects the brain. David was expected to recover, but in a tragic turn of events, he passed away on March 13th. Although his family was looking to make burial arrangement, but they were unable, given their financial situation.

Nonetheless, the family is not alone. Several Midwest tennis families have banded together to help out the Filers to ease their burden. The group has set up a GoFundMe account and encouraged everyone in the tennis world to show their gratitude for the young talent.
