Monte-Carlo Masters: Is Novak Djokovic’s Rumoured Full-Time Coach Nenad Zimonjic Present at the Tournament?

Novak Djokovic, who was under the tutelage of Goran Ivanišević for half a decade, previously announced a shocking split with the Croatian coach. Ever since the Serbian player parted ways with Ivanišević this season, there have been a lot of rumors about Nenad Zimonjić joining his compatriot’s coaching team. As Djokovic will now mark his participation at the Monte Carlo Masters, the question arises: Will Djokovic’s rumored full-time coach Zimonjic be present in his box?

In an interview with L’Equipe, the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion was asked if he was going on ‘a trial period’ with his compatriot, Nenad Zimonjić. Djokovic replied, “He’s been a friend for a long time. I have known him since I was very young. He was my Davis Cup captain. We notably won the ATP Cup together in 2020, and we have always had good communication. I like the way he thinks about tennis, how he observes my game and that of others.”

While calling him a ‘big brother’ and mentor, the current number 1 player confirmed the Serbian tennis coach’s presence at this clay court season. Nole said, “He was in Belgrade when I started my preparation on clay. I asked him if there was a chance he would be present for this session. He said yes. I asked him if he could come to Monaco, and he said yes. We are there. It’s based on our old relationship. We’ll see where this takes us. We’ll talk about it again at the end of this tournament.”

Now that he has teamed up with his countryman, the ‘Djoker’ opened up about how he is taking some advice from Zimonjic to work on the weak points of his racket game.

In another interview with Eurosport, the Serb revealed he is taking advice from the former number 1 doubles player to work on his positioning, as he is ‘not best’ when approaching the net on the court. He said, “He’s been giving me really useful advice to find the proper position when I’m approaching the net, and it’s something I’m not best at because I don’t play as many doubles matches.”
