With the 2021 season coming to an end, tennis fans have started to show their excitement for the Australian Open 2022. The tournament is scheduled from January 17 to January 30, 2022, at Melbourne Park. However, Australia’s own, Nick Kyrgios believes the ‘Happy Slam’ should not go ahead.

According to Kyrgios, the Australian Open would attract a lot of tennis fans across the country. Considering the current COVID-19 scenarios, it would not be ideal to organize the Australian Open in 2022. However, the Australian Open was conducted successfully in the year 2021 under necessary guidelines.
In the second episode of a podcast, Kyrgios said, ” I don’t think the oz open should go ahead in my opinion. Just for the people of Melbourne like you’ve got to send a message.”

The Australian thinks it would be harmful for the population of Melbourne to conduct the Grand Slam. Moreover, Australia had been under lockdown for almost 275 days after the pandemic struck the country. With the currently easing of situations, people have started to go back into their normal lifestyles.
Kyrgios took time off the tennis

After a disappointing performance at the Laver Cup, Nick Kyrgios decided to take a sabbatical from tennis. Furthermore, he also withdrew from the remainder of the year. Since then, Kyrgios has been staying in his home country.
“I’ve chosen to fly back to Australia and re-asses and am planning to get PRP treatment to settle down and rehab my knee. I’m disappointed it has kept me from playing my best tennis, and hopefully, with everything going smoothly, I’ll be back to 100% by the Australian Open. All love,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

Kyrgios has been a serious threat to the top players in the world. However, till now, he hasn’t announced any news regarding his participation at the Australian Open.
