John McEnroe commented on Sampras’ personality
McEnroe himself got a lot of attention because of his on-court debacles. He talked about Pete Sampras and said, “His personality is not going to win any awards.” Furthermore, he added, “This is a case where people would respond more if they did feel an intensity.” McEnroe said, “It would be helpful to him, and to tennis, that you see he really wants it.”
Sampras did not have the buzz that other players during his time carried. It was because he stayed composed on the court focusing solely on his game. The player’s personality resembled Bjorn Borg who also did not become the talk of the town.
