It’s not unusual for Djokovic to be hesitant about declaring his participation at the Olympics. However, as the years go by and he inches closer to his potential retirement from tennis, questions are raised about whether he could play in the next Olympics.

Novak Djokovic has competed for Serbia at the Olympics before, where he took home a bronze in 2008 in Beijing, his first Olympic medal. In a press conference, when asked about whether he would be seen in the Olympics starting in July 2024, Djokovic said, “Everything is on the cards; uh, I just don’t know how many cards I have left. You know, let’s see it’s its still very far to think about the Los Angeles Olympic Games, but the thought of it excites me, and of course I would love to play that.”

Novak Djokovic did not entirely dismiss the idea of playing in the Olympics. How can he? He has an ambition to win a gold medal for his country. However, he expressed his desire to take things as they come to him. “But you know, as we know, the Olympics come every 4 years. I can’t really commit to that yet. I think I’ll take it year by year and just see how my body serves me,” he said further.

Being 36 years old, Novak Djokovic is well aware of the physical toll that playing professional tennis can take, so his hesitancy to add another grueling competition to his already busy schedule is justified. But his positive outlook and desire to keep going while still competing are palpable in his conversations.

“How much motivation do I really have to do what I have done most of my life in day and out, you know? uh it’s becoming harder and harder, you know, but I still love this sport and still have been competing at the highest level and still no 1, so I feel, you know, at the moment that I still want to keep going and keep trying to make more history. You know, let’s see how far I go,” Novak Djokovic said while talking about his future plans in tennis.
