‘Optimistic’ John McEnroe Lays Bare What Holger Rune and Boris Becker Need to Do for a Fruitful Partnership

Holger Rune struck gold when he partnered with Boris Becker. The two decided to work as a team when Rune’s aim to improve coincided with Becker’s intention to recreate his reputation after the debt evasion fiasco. They have noted some positive developments in their games, and the tennis world is eager to witness more of them. John McEnroe recently spoke about their joint venture and shared his thoughts on how Rune can improve under Becker.

As McEnroe continues to look at the trajectory of Rune, he can’t help but be reminded of himself. McEnroe is hoping for the player to grow, and he believes Becker is the right fit for him.

Rune and Becker joined hands near the end of October. Looking to improve their careers, they have set a steady path for themselves. Fans got to see some improvement as Rune made it to the final of the Brisbane International at the start of this year. McEnroe recently interviewed with Eurosport and talked about how Rune can improve under Becker.

Highlighting the difference between Rune and Becker, McEnroe said, “Boris will have a different perspective about life in general and his coaching methods.” However, McEnroe also talked about how team Rune can still achieve great success.

McEnroe added, “He’s got a young player who needs to take that next step to be a Grand Slam champion. If Rune listens to Boris and Boris understands Rune, it could be a great partnership and I’m optimistic it will be good for tennis.”

Rune has been described as a brash young man by the tennis world, which is similar to McEnroe’s nickname, ‘SuperBrat’. This is one of the reasons why the American tennis legend sees himself in the Danish Young Gun.

McEnroe has not only supported Rune’s attitude but also guided it to be better

While Holger Rune is often known as a star of the next generation, fans also know him for his outbursts. The youngster has an attitude that often pits him in a controversial light. In an interview with Diario AS, McEnroe talked about the rash attitude of Rune and how he is a cocky individual.

Supporting Rune, McEnroe said, “He’s got an attitude, you know, he’s cocky and I believe you need that. Be yourself. However, he didn’t fail to mention that one also needs to pay respect to their opponents at the end of the match.

John McEnroe said that there were many times he was disrespectful to his opponents during the match but not after the match. He believes Holger Rune has also started doing that, and he is improving in this regard.
