The Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic finally increased his Grand Slam tally to 21 by reigning in the grass courts of London. After Nadal broke the tie between the “Big Three”, this was Djokovic’s first step toward equaling the score.

Djokovic got the better of the Australian tennis professional Nick Kyrgios in the final of the Wimbledon Championships 2022. Following that, tennis stars and fans showered him with congratulatory messages. And one of the earliest and most earnest messages came from World No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas about Djokovic’s victory

The Greek tennis star took to Twitter to express himself and wrote,Always remember to congratulate the champion who sacrificed tremendously for sports. Congratulations Novak Djokovic on this flawless triumphant run! Well deserved.”

The former world No.3 himself got knocked out by Kyrgios in the third round of the tournament. The Aussie marched towards the round of 16 by defeating Tsitsipas in a tough five set long match of 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7). Therefore, Tsitsipas understands that outclassing the 27-year-old riding high on form wasn’t an easy task for Djokovic.

Djokovic, who reigned in three out of four Grand Slam tournaments last year, failed to defend two of his titles this season. At first, he lost the chance to win his fourth consecutive trophy in Australia. He was barred from participating in the tournament after a long legal battle related to the Serb’s Covid-19 vaccination status.

Then, after missing almost the entire hard court season, he made a comeback in clay. Due to lack of match practice, among other factors, he underwhelmed in several tournaments and eventually fell prey to Nadal in the quarterfinals at the French Open. Now that he has claimed the title at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, he seems to have regained his last year’s form. However, because of the US Open’s strict vaccination rules, Wimbledon could be his only Grand Slam title in 2022.
