Hailing from the same country, Djokovic has invested in one of his young compatriots on the tour, Hamad Medjedovic, who has been in stellar form this season.

Now, it looks like Djokovic’s investment in the 20-year-old player is paying off, as Medjedovic recently delivered some phenomenal performances at the ongoing ATP Next Gen Finals. Here’s how Serbian tennis is reaping the rewards of the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion’s funding for the next-generation star.

The current world No. 1 player is hoping to keep Serbia’s flag at the top of the sport, as he has funded his young compatriot, Medjedovic’s recent campaigns. According to the renowned commentator and pundit James Melville, the ‘Djoker’ is backing the 20-year-old player by funding his tennis expenses like travel, coaching, and accommodation during tournaments.

Melville tweeted, “Novak Djokovic is supporting fellow Serbian player Hamad Medjedovic’s career (19 years old / world ranking 259) by funding his tennis career expenses: travel, tour accommodation, coaching, physiotherapist etc.”

Djokovic’s investment in the 19-year-old player is certainly paying off, as he has marked a remarkable campaign at the exhibition tennis tournament featuring the best 21-and-under players of the season. Let’s take a look at Medjedovic’s run at the ATP Next Gen Finals, as he is now one match win away from glory.

The Serb started the ATP Next Gen Finals with a bang as he swept aside the likes of Alex Michelsen, Luca Van Assche, and Abedallah Shelbayh in the group stage fixtures. Later, Medjedovic was awarded a walkover after his third-seed Swiss opponent, Dominic Stephan Stricker, picked up an injury in the semifinals. 

While maintaining a brilliant winning streak in Jeddah, the Serb is now one match away from the ATP Next Gen Finals title. However, it won’t be an easy task for Medjedovic, as he will be up against the number one seed in the tournament, Arthur Fils.
