You need a win to cancel out a failure. The world’s No. 25, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, faced a major disappointment at the China Open. However, on the flip side, he successfully finished the journey of the Great Wall of China. These two things might seem distant from each other at first glance. However, there’s a lot more to this than what meets the eye.
After losing to Alexander Zverev in the round of 16, Fokina had some time before his next tournament. Leave it to an athlete to find a leisure activity that’s fun and involves training. Fokina came up with the idea of walking through the Great Wall of China and even getting to the end!

The set of 7⁷-6⁴ was followed by an unbelievable 2-6 and 1-6. As embarrassing as it was, Fokina didn’t even get a chance to fight back. Alexander Zverev dominated that match in every way possible. There is no way either of them will ever forget this match, yet for completely different reasons.
Fokina did what he could, but ultimately it was Zverev’s time to shine. Davidovich made a good decision to clear his mind with this trek. Even if it doesn’t practically give him an edge in his matches, the journey is meant to recharge his soul with zest.
