It’s the 36th birthday of the 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss professional tennis player turns 36 today and is hoping to make a return to the court soon. The former World No.3 suffered from a left foot injury recently and cannot play as he underwent surgery.

On his birthday, 18-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic also extended his warm wishes to Stan Wawrinka. He commented on a post by Roland Garros and wished him a happy birthday.

“Happy birthday Stan the Man,” tweeted Djokovic.

Roland Garros’s official Twitter handle shared a picture of Wawrinka and wrote, “Get well soon”. Wawrinka won the French Open in 2015 by defeating Djokovic in the finals.

Head-to-head, Djoker and Wawrinka have faced each other on 25 occasions. The Serbian legend completely dominates the battle 19-6. However, Wawrinka has thrashed Djoker at the French Open 2015 and at the US Open 2016 finals.

Stan Wawrinka in the 2021 tennis season so far

Wawrinka has had a very poor 2021 tennis season so far. Even though he managed to reach the quarters of the ATP Melbourne 2021, he failed to impress the fans at the Australian Open 2021. Despite fighting hard, the Swiss player lost to Marton Fucsovics in the second round of the tournament.

Things got worse for him at the Rotterdam Open 2021 as he got knocked out from the first round of the competition. Interestingly, he lost to Karen Khachanov in straight sets. The same story continued at the Qatar Open 2021 where he lost to South African player Lloyd Harris in the first round itself.

Wawrinka is currently suffering from a foot injury, and it is uncertain whether he’ll be able to play in the upcoming clay-court season. He is 36 at the moment and might bid goodbye to the sport soon. Will Wawrinka be able to win a title in 2021?
