‘Thank You Federer’: Fans Gather for One Final Glimpse of Roger Federer Following Speculations of Retirement

In what was the biggest and probably the most shocking upset this season, Tennis legend, Roger Federer, bowed out of the 2021 Wimbledon Championship last night.
The Swiss giant put up a great fight in the quarter-final clash but against all his experience and efforts, couldn’t keep up with his young counterpart, Hubert Hurkacz.
The game was a roller-coaster of emotions, to say the least, as a crowd, even in tears, cheered on Federer right till the last point lost.

Fans in and around the arena went above and beyond just to get a glimpse of the former World No. 1. Speculating this was the last time they would see Roger Federer grace the grass court, fans flooded the gates in numbers, hopeful of seeing him one last time.

The tennis world was absolutely shattered watching the legend go down in the manner he did. Regardless, his legacy is so huge that as he walked off the court, they stood on their feet; not just applauding his performance but reminding him of what he means to them.
A man of class, Federer made sure he gave his fans what they came to see. While fear of retirement grows amongst many, time stopped for everyone at that moment, as Roger stepped out and waved to the crowd.

Federer’s loss was as devastating as it could be. Losing straight sets, with a 6-0 deficit in the final set, he seemed lost, out of focus, and low on energy.

The 39-year-old legend put on an incredibly tough fight, trying to make his way back into the game but fell victim to Hubert’s energy and pace.
Federer, clearly restricted by his age, played some beautiful shots while he also gifted his opponent with some points. Hence, the notion that this might be it for him, was set.
Regardless of the future, Federer’s history in the game will forever speak for who he was, and no defeat can ever change that. The world bears witness to his legacy and greatness and will forever be in awe of his glorious career. However, it isn’t the history fans doubt but the future they fear. Will we see a Federer masterclass ever again?
