Jannik Sinner ended Novak Djokovic‘s long streak. The Italian young gun defeated Djokovic in four sets. Although after winning the first two sets easily, the Serbian player threatened a comeback. However, the 22-year-old finished the match with a win in the fourth set, as he went on to become the first finalist of the 2024 Australian Open.

As Sinner stood to interview with Jim Courier after his bout, he shared his thoughts about his win. He also talked about how he managed to beat Novak Djokovic for the second time in a row.

The first set was quickly won by Sinner 6-1, 6-2. Djokovic managed to clinch the third set by pushing it to a tie-break. The entirety of the tennis fan base believed that the Djoker would surely go on to demolish Sinner. However, the Italian player took vengeance for the ATP Finals to end Djokovic’s stint in the semifinal.

After the match, Sinner got on an interview with Jim Courier to talk about the match that ended Djokovic’s 11th Australian Open run. Courier asked him about how he had beaten Djokovic for the third time in their fourth meetup. Sinner said that he aimed to return as many shots as he could.

He also said, “Just trying to push, trying to move him around a little bit. I’m not going to tell you the tactics, but um, because I have the feeling that or I hope so that uh, I might play him, um hopefully a couple of uh of different matches also, but it’s a pleasure to be here as I said it’s uh it’s they call it the happy slam for a reason.”

For Sinner, the Australian Open will end up becoming the happy slam as he will now enter his first slam final. Their match saw one interruption as the Italian gained momentum. But Sinner did not let it disrupt him and ended up closing out Djokovic’s title defense.

Now, Jannik Sinner will face either Daniil Medvedev or Alexander Zverev in the finals, and his only aim will be to lift the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup for the first time in his career.
