‘They Gave Me an Injection’- Stefanos Tsitsipas Agrees With Rafael Nadal; Says He Could Play One of His Best Matches Without Pain

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the promising current generation players. The 23-year-old has had an average season so far. After making it to the semi-final at the Australian Open, he reached the final of the Mexican Open and the semifinal of the Madrid Open. Also, the world number 5 did well to defend his title in the Monte Carlo Open 2022.

However, he failed to book a slot in the quarterfinal of the recently concluded French Open. The Greek lost his fourth-round match against Holger Rune in a four-set game.

Earlier this week Spanish tennis legend won the French Open title for a record 14th time in his career. It was an important victory because the 36-year-old was playing the tournament in pain. After the conclusion of the tournament, he revealed about taking injections before the match to make his sore foot numb. Reacting to the brave move from the Spaniard, Tsitsipas remembered an instance when he was in a similar situation.

Amidst the talk of Rafael Nadal and his title run with an injured foot, the Greek tennis star recalled a similar instance from his career. The 23 years old was playing in ATP final and had severe pain in his leg. Although it was not at the level of what Nadal was facing, he felt that he won’t be able to play. But after getting an injection, he played one of his best games.

“There was a match I thought I couldn’t play because I felt too much pain. Not to the point of Rafa, but I had a similar situation at the ATP Finals. I felt extreme pain in my leg. They gave me an injection, and I played one of the best matches of my life.” He said.

The Greek is taking on on Dominic Stricker, who made it to the second round after playing qualifiers. Notably, this is the first time these two are playing against each other. The Swiss has been putting hard yards and looked confident going into the game.
