Video: Nick Kyrgios Emulates Rafael Nadal’s Iconic Shot While Playing Doubles With Best Friend Thanasi Kokkinakis in Japan

The Wimbledon finalist, Nick Kyrgios, is having a great season as his consistent performances have seen him rise to the 20th spot in the ATP rankings. Apart from that, he recently reached the finals of the doubles category in the Japan Open, with his compatriot, Thanasi Kokkinakis. Earlier, in the round of 16 match, Kyrgios played an unbelievable around-the-net shot during the doubles match.

Kyrgios’ shot was quite similar to what Rafael Nadal once did in the US Open.

Nick Kyrgios goes around the net like Rafael Nadal

The Australian tennis star, Nick Kyrgios, is quite active on social media. He recently quoted a tweet with a video clip from his doubles match in Japan. During the match, Kyrgios played a spectacular forehand shot from a tight angle as he went around the net. Both the spectators and Kyrgios himself rose to their feet after witnessing the Australian’s shot.

The World No.20 praised himself on social media by stating, “Im good”

Nick Kyrgios’ forehand shot was very similar to one of Nadal’s around the net forehand against Marin Čilić in the 2019 US Open.

Kyrgios and his fellow countryman, Kokkinakis, will play in the finals of the doubles event in Tokyo. They will face the Spanish tennis duo Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Pedro Martínez.

Kyrgios’ performance at the singles event in the Japan Open

The Wimbledon finalist, Kyrgios had a fantastic start to the men’s singles event at Tokyo Open. He knocked out the Taiwanese tennis player, Tseng Chun-hsin in straight sets of 6-3, 6-1. During the pre-tournament press conference, Kyrgios stated that he was extremely disappointed with his US Open quarter-finals defeat.

The Australian star performed brilliantly at the US Open as he defeated the former World No. 1, Daniil Medvedev, in New York. However, he was knocked out by Karen Khachanov in a thrilling five-set match. Additionally, Kyrgios stated that his US Open defeat has made him much more eager to win the tournament in Japan. He stated, “It kind of added a bit of fuel to me.”

Kyrgios has been working hard on the tennis court and he is motivated to win in Japan. The fifth-seeded, Kyrgios will now compete against the Polish tennis player, Kamil Majchrzak in the round of 16 of the Japan Open.
