Roger Federer is one of the greatest players of all time. The Swiss Maestro has won 20 Grand Slams title on the court and continues to hold many record in the sport even today. However, he would have not achieved so much success if his wife, Mirka Federer, had not backed and supported him consistently.

In many early interviews, Roger Federer has highlighted the importance of his wife, Mirka in his life. He believes that she has not only helped him to revive his career in 2017 but has always stood with him on all the occasions.

When Mirka and Roger Federer played mixed doubles for the first time

It was during the Hopman Cup 2002 when Roger and Mirka played the mixed doubles together. Representing Switzerland, the pair was up against Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia Malik.

Even though they lost in straight sets, the two showed some great chemistry on the court. Back then, Mirka was just Roger’s girlfriend and he was yet to win a Grand Slam title.

Although Switzerland failed to qualify for the semis of the Hopman Cup 2002, Mirka and Roger defeated Argentina’s Paola Suarez and Mariano Zabaleta in three sets to win their first match together.

Federer tied the knot with Mirka in 2009

A recurring foot injury forced Mirka to take retirement from the sport in 2002 only. However, the couple continued to date each other till April, 2009, when they officially tied the knot at at Wenkenhof Villa in Riehen near Basel, Switzerland. As of now, they have four children- a pair of girl twins-born in 2009 and a pair of boy twins, who took birth in 2014.

One often sees Mirka even now supporting her better half from the stands in most of his matches. She is usually the first one to give a standing ovation to the Swiss Maestro following his victory.

Roger Federer’s return to the court is uncertain right now. However, fans hope that he recovers soon after his knee surgery and returns to the court quickly. Will he be able to feature at the Australian Open 2022?
