So what do we know about the couple who raised Medvedev to become one of the most successful Russian tennis players ever?
Daniil Medvedev was born on February 11th, 1996, to Olga and Sergey Medvedev in Moscow, Russia. Here’s an interesting fact about his citizenship. Although Medvedev now lives in Monte Carlo, he still remains to be a citizen of Russian and there’s a story behind that.

Sergey and Olga wanted their son to be born in France and become a citizen of the European country. They planned to relocate from Moscow to France in March 1996 during Olga’s pregnancy, but Medvedev was born earlier than expected and the family had to stay in Moscow due to several restrictions.
Daniil Medvedev also has two sisters named Julia and Elena, and it was his father who made him take up tennis at an early age. However, they tried to change his course at the age of 9 as Sergey pushed Daniil to become a professional swimmer.
But as he went to the pool, a poster that contained information about tennis classes caught Daniil Medvedev’s eye, and he never deviated from the sport again.
France is Daniil Medvedev’s second home
Though Sergey and Olga’s initial plan of relocating to France failed, they’ve now succeeded in making the country Medvedev’s second home. The 25-year-old has set up his residence in Monte Carlo like most of his ATP colleagues but calls France his second home.
There’s a significance to that as Medvedev’s coach Gilles Cervara is French. He relocated from Russia to France along with his family at the age of 18 and joined Elite Tennis Center, run former pro, Jean-Rene Lisnard and Gilles Cervara.
