Wimbledon Championships Fines Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas After Multiple Violations During Drama-Filled Encounter

Nick Kyrgios is having a dream run at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. He caused a massive upset, knocking out the fourth seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, in the third round. Moreover, the match had it all, with Tsitsipas being frustrated with Kyrgios’ antics. In a match lasting three hours and 17 minutes, Kyrgios prevailed in four sets.

During the match, there were many heated moments, with both players losing their temper. Kyrgios was visibly upset with some of the close calls going against him. Subsequently, he had constant altercations with the chair umpire. On the other hand, Tsitsipas was frustrated with his opponent’s antics and smashed the ball into the crowd. Fortunately for him, his action didn’t cause any damage. As a result of their actions, both Kyrgios and Tsitsipas have received fines.

Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas face sanctions for their actions

The fourth seed was fined $10,000 by the All England Club for his actions during the match against Kyrgios. On the other hand, Kyrgios received a fine of $4,000. They took the decision yesterday, a day after their feisty encounter.

Tsitsipas received a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. He had even received two warnings from chair umpire Damien Dumusois for ball abuse. Meanwhile, Kyrgios received a penalty for audible obscenity. On multiple occasions, line judges had reported Kyrgios’ inappropriate language to the chair umpire. Further, this is the second time that Kyrgios has received a fine in this tournament. Earlier, in the first round, he received a fine of $10,000 for spitting in the direction of a spectator.

Kyrgios’ father slams Wimbledon officials

During an interview, the Australian star’s father slammed Wimbledon officials for having double standards. He said, “My son would have been defaulted. You’ve got to draw the line for everybody. I hate to see it for anyone. I feel sorry for all of them – the pressure is so much.”
