Federer's kids enjoying Wimbledon without him—Is this a sign of their growing independence?

“No, we want to come to Wimbledon this year.”– pushed Roger Federer’s kids to watch some high-quality grass tennis at Wimbledon. It seems Wimbledon is not just Federer’s favorite tournament but also his 4 kids. Lo-and-behold, the 20-time Grand Slam champion granted their request. And the kids chose to relish the lush green on the outside courts, not at the Centre Court without either of their parents with them. But who captured their attention as they sat captivated in the stands?

Ben Shelton! Yes, Federer’s kids sat throughout the American’s match against Lloyd Harris yesterday. But what caught attention was the fact that neither of their parents accompanied them to the court. In the post shared by a fan on their X account, the 4 young Federers can be seen sitting as they watched Shelton win on Court 18. There can be 2 reasons for their presence at the outside court. Firstly, Shelton may be their new favorite after Federer’s exit from tennis. And secondly, to avoid the ever-penetrating gaze of the tennis fans on an outside coourt. It could be both too, nobody knows. But it was refreshing to see the Federer family’s presence at the Grass Slam!

Shelton and Harris didn’t disappoint the young tennis fans in the stand. As they show cased a thrilling 5-setter with American taking the last set to proceed into the R3 of Wimbledon. Moreover, in the high intensity match, neither of the players gave each other even a little space to dominate. Consequently there were various tie-breakers to settle the score.

Roger Federer plays peek-a-boo with tennis fans while his family enjoys the Grass courts

Since the beginning of the Grass Slam, tennis fans’ eyes are gazing at the royal box of the Centre Court as they wait for Federer. The Swiss tennis legend raised the hopes of fans when he was seen at Wimbledon before Andy Murray’s last doubles on the Grass. However, much to their disappointment, Federer chose to meet Murray behind the closed curtains rather than sharing the skies on the stand.

Have an interesting take?

Tournament director Jamie Baker relayed the private meeting between the two legends to the tennis circuit. He said, “Yeah, he went and saw Andy before the match. They had a good chat…I think Andy really appreciated that as well.” Private moment of respect and a bit of chat over a public show. That’s something that Federer would certainly do.

But tennis fans still yearn to see the whole Federer family together in the stands sooner than ever. Hopefully, Federer would fulfill their wish!
