Former World No. 1 Sir Andy Murray has been a resurgent figure in the 2022 tennis season. Murray reached the final of the Sydney International tournament ahead of the Australian Open 2022.
Sadly, his run at the first Grand Slam of the year was short, as he exited the tournament in the second round. Japan’s Taro Daniel defeated Murray in straight sets in the second round of the Australian Open, ending the Brit’s Grand Slam campaign.
Nevertheless, fans of Murray had been looking forward to seeing him take to the courts again. However, there’s have bad news in store, as Andy Murray has announced his withdrawal from the French Open.

Andy Murray will forego the entire clay season
3-time Grand Slam champion Sir Andy Murray has announced that he would not be competing at the French Open 2022. In fact, he will be completely skipping out on the clay season overall.
This news comes ahead of his participation at the Rotterdam Open. Murray will be headlining the hard-court event next week. However, when the tennis tour turns to clay, the 34-year-old will be missed.

Andy Murray will skip the French Open and the whole of the clay court season.

“I am not planning on playing through the clay,” Murray announced. He cited his past history with clay-court surfaces with regard to his health. Having spoken to his team about the same, Murray stated that “while I feel good and healthy, I don’t want to take that risk.”
However, this does not mean that he won’t play on the red courts ever again in the future.
But meanwhile, the Brit still plans on competing in other non-clay tournaments while the clay season goes on. “I won’t do nothing, that’s my plan just now,” Murray shared.

In fact, Murray had taken the same decision last year as well, choosing to skip the French Open 2021. He had done so in order to focus on the grass-court season and his home slam at Wimbledon.
Similarly, this year too, Murray hopes to “get a good build-up to the grass season.” Clearly, as the former champion ages, his health and medical status govern his professional decisions.
Murray’s last-minute decision to compete in Rotterdam
Andy Murray exited the Australian Open 2022 early after his second-round defeat to Taro Daniel. The British star lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
Consequently, he made a last-minute decision regarding his next ATP tournament; Murray currently does not have a coach after he parted ways with Jan de Witt after the Australian Open.

He confirmed his participation in the Rotterdam Open, an indoor hard-court ATP 500 event. Murray is now set to face off against Alexander Bublik in the first round.

Moreover, alongside Murray, other tennis stars who will be participating in Rotterdam are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Aslan Karatsev, and Karen Khachanov. Furthermore, even Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, David Goffin, and Lorenzo Musetti will be competing.
