The Argentine tennis player Juan Martin del Potro is ready to make a U-turn on his decision to step away from professional tennis. And he made a huge promise to his fans after his home country won the FIFA World Cup. However, will the Argentine star keep his promise and return to the professional circuit in 2023?
The tennis player from Argentina unofficially retired this year before Roger Federer and Serena Williams after competing in his final event at home. He was out of the Tour for a few months before retiring after having difficulty dealing with his injuries.

The onetime Grand Slam winner is teasing his followers with some fantastic news that could make them ecstatic or possibly crush their hearts. And it was all because of Argentina’s triumph that was delivered by Lionel Messi and his team in the 2022 World Cup final last week against the reigning champions. The Argentinian tennis star, who is passionate about supporting his country, hinted at making a comeback.

The tennis star expressed his excitement on Twitter after Argentina defeated Croatia in the semifinal match. A fan asked him if Argentina won the World Cup will he consider playing in the US Open 2023. To which the 34-year-old commented that he has already done his best.

Juan Martin Del Potro, Who Retired Ahead of Serena Williams and Roger Federer, Delivers Poignant Message About Life Post Tennis: ‘Didn’t Have a Gradual Transition’
So, after Argentina won the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, the ATP Twitter account quoted del Potro’s tweet, waiting for an answer with an eyes emoji looking around. Del Potro replied, “I’ll update you in a few days!” Feels like even the ATP tour is eager to have the Argentine back on the professional circuit.

When del Potro couldn’t accept a life without tennis
The 2009 US Open champion said back in September that he was upset about quitting the sport since he had planned to play more. The tennis player added that he was having trouble accepting that he had a life outside of tennis and he wasn’t ready to return to his life after quitting the sport.

"I can’t psychologically accept a life without tennis. I did not have a gradual transition to the after, I did not prepare. (…) I was number 3 in the world, then suddenly I broke my knees and here I am, with nothing."

Additionally, he expressed his displeasure and noted that he was left with nothing. The former third-ranked tennis player in the world fractured his knee and was forced to make the hardest choice of his life.
