Despite the two-time Olympic gold medalist and the Swiss ace sharing the same sponsor, it was only recently that the two sat for lunch. And as the World Championship season is approaching for Alpine skiing, the 20-time Grand Slam champion shared a much-needed ‘mantra’ with Shiffrin. In an interview for the official website of the Olympics, she said, “He was like, ‘You’re not going to be successful every time. It just doesn’t work that way. When you’re disappointed, you’re gonna think it’s all over and you’re never gonna get back to the top.”

As Shiffrin vies for an all-time record for the most World Cup races win by a female ski racer, she tries to remember the words shared by the Swiss Maestro. She further added, “‘So when you’re at the top, take a moment and breathe it in and then keep working.’ So that’s something I’m also carrying with me.”

After suffering from a major setback at the Winter Olympics, Shiffrin made a comeback at Lenzerheide, Switzerland’s Super G World Cup Event, where she secured a podium finish. Moreover, the silver lining was the presence of her idol, Roger Federer, cheering for the athletes.
