Rising American tennis star Christopher Eubanks has scripted the most significant chapter so far of his fairytale Wimbledon run. The 27-year-old caused a huge upset by pulling off an incredible victory over world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in round 16 as he booked a place in his first-ever grand slam quarterfinal. Making this victory even more memorable for Eubanks was the unfettering support he received from close friend and fellow American Coco Gauff.

The strong bond shared between Eubanks and Gauff is indeed a rarity in the professional tennis circuit. And 19-year-old Coco Gauff was quick to express her feelings after her friend’s epic victory.

Eubanks, who hails from Atlanta, saw Gauff playing at a local tennis court for the first time when she was six years old. As years went by, the 2 struck a chord and eventually developed a close friendship with each other. 

After Eubanks’ stunning victory, Coco Gauff took to her Instagram profile to congratulate him. She posted an Instagram story sharing a picture of a triumphant Christopher Eubanks, basking in the glory of his memorable win. She captioned the image with a giraffe emoji alluding to the towering 6′ 7″ frame of Eubanks. Gauff also added an 8-ball pool emoji to her caption, possibly hinting at the fact that her friend has secured last 8 qualification at SW19 in such a special manner.

Despite herself bowing out of Wimbledon in the first round, Gauff made sure she was present in the stands along with her parents to provide support to Eubanks during his round 16 encounter against 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Wimbledon quarterfinalist opened up on the strong bond he shares with Gauff while taking part in the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast last year. He revealed that they talk to each other almost on a daily basis, but their conversations hardly ever revolve around tennis.

According to him, they usually discuss Coco Gauff’s social media activities, especially on TikTok, where the 19-year-old is apparently quite a big name. Eubanks even referred to the young WTA star as his younger sister and emphasized that Gauff is just like a family member to him.
