Alongside Thiem, the WTA player, Taylor Townsend has also got a wildcard entry for the Grand Slam event. Townsend’s compatriot Christopher Eubanks is also there among the players who will feature at the Australian Open.

A recent statement from the Australian Open has confirmed that they have awarded wild card entries to some of the players. The US Open 2020 champion, Dominic Thiem, is also on the list as he will make a return to the Grand Slam event in Melbourne. The Austrian tennis star missed the previous season’s edition as he was struggling with an injury.

Along with the Austrian star, Taylor Townsend and her compatriot Christopher Eubanks will also compete for the Grand Slam title in Melbourne. As a result, the tennis community was delighted about these players getting wild card entries. Some of the fans also took to their social media to share their excitement.

Notably, journalist Michal Samulski tweeted, “Australian Open main draw wildcards for Dominic Thiem, Taylor Townsend, Christopher Eubanks, Diane Parry and Luca Van Assche. The remaining wildcards – 2 men’s and 2 women’s will be announced next week.”

Apart from Thiem, Townsend and Eubanks, two French tennis players have also been awarded a wildcard entry for the Grand Slam event. The WTA star, Diane Parry and the ATP player, Luca Van Assche, will get their chance to play in the Australian Open.
