As the United cup is underway, Team USA proceeded to the final after their victory over Poland. On their journey to the finale, the USA pulled a clean sweep over Poland, 5-0. Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe, Madison Keys, and Taylor Fritz pulled an impressive singles win over their Polish opponents. However, what impressed the American star, Tiafoe, was Pegula’s win over the current World No.1 Iga Swiatek, who had claimed 2 Grand Slam titles last season.

The stars were involved in a playful banter after their semi-final win, where Tiafoe declared his alternative career choice. Which might have not impressed his fellow compatriot, Pegula.

Frances Tiafoe to be on Jessica Pegula’s team after Australian Open

Iga Swiatek, who now holds the record for most wins in a row (37), dominated the tennis circuit last season. However, en route to the final of the United Cup, Jessica Pegula dealt a crushing blow to Swiatek. Consequently, Frances Tiafoe, Pegula’s teammate, took advantage of the moment, as he teased the World No.3 after her stunning victory during their press conference. He said, “No, but it was great, honestly. Just, again, like seeing Jess play today, inspired me a lot. Super happy for her.”

However, the World No.19 didn’t fail to snatch some credit for Pegula’s win. As he further added, “The reason why she won, I sent a great text to her last night before she went to sleep, and I think that really motivated her. And obviously our warmups. I think I’m going to be on the team, on her team after this week.”

The team USA’s captain, David Witt, wasn’t far behind as he supported Tiafoe in the banter and concurred with him. He said, “You’re hired.”

But the US tennis sensation Pegula differed on his role in her team. As she suggested, a special post for him, “Hired as a hitting partner.” To which, the World No.19 responded by saying that he would be following Pegula, “I think the Australian Open is
probably my last event. I’m just going to be following Jess Pegula around”.
