Tennis star Serena Williams was born in Michigan, USA, in 1981. Turning pro in 1995, Williams came under the spotlight when she lifted the US Open title in 1999. At the age of just 18, Serena Williams lifted her maiden Grand Slam title. Soon after, she began a period of unprecedented domination on the WTA tour.

Serena Williams has grabbed 23 Grand Slam titles. She’s just one short of Margaret Court’s historic 24 Grand Slam titles. In July 2002, Serena Williams attained the position of World No. 1 for the first time in her career.
