Not many expected Roger Federer to announce his retirement news so abruptly. The Swiss Maestro had been working hard over the past few months to regain full fitness after undergoing knee surgery. However, he suffered a major blow to his comeback plans as liquid accumulated in his right knee that resulted in inflammation.

Subsequently, the 20-time Grand Slam champion took to social media to share his retirement note with his fans. It was a sad moment across the tennis fraternity, as one of the finest players of the sport called an end to his career. Recently, Federer shared thoughts on his retirement.

The Swiss Maestro took to Instagram to share some glimpses from the last tournament of his illustrious career. Sharing pictures on his official Instagram handle, he said, “We all hope for a fairytale ending. Here’s how mine went: Lost my last singles, Lost my last doubles, Lost my last team event, Lost my voice during the week, Lost my job.”

Further, he went on to add, “But still, my retirement could not have been more peRFect and I’m so happy with how everything went. So don’t overthink that perfect ending, yours will always be amazing in your own way…”
