Unquestionably, the Olympics are the world’s biggest sporting event and will be held this year in Tokyo, Japan. For this, even tennis fans are eager to see which players get their hands on a gold medal. Most significantly, the question is: Will Andy Murray play and defend his men’s singles gold medal again?
In 2016, Murray became the first tennis player in history who successfully defended his Olympics gold. Before that, he denied the Swiss maestro Roger Federer in the 2012 London Olympics men’s singles final. Thus, he would indeed make a great addition to the Great Britain tennis team in Tokyo. Without further ado, let’s look at their tennis team announced for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Great Britain’s tennis team for Tokyo Olympics
First and foremost, the three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has confirmed participating in Tokyo. Despite his low rankings, his past success earned him a spot in the five confirmed English players traveling to Japan. Also, the Scot will join forces with two-time majors winner in doubles and Olympic debutant Joe Salisbury in the doubles category.
“The Olympics means a huge amount to me; it’s a massive honor to be able to compete at a fourth Games. Leading Team GB out at the Opening Ceremony five years ago in Rio was one of the highlights of my career. Going to a second Olympics as defending champion is exciting, and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Murray said.

Furthermore, the former British No. 1 Heather Watson will be making her third Olympic appearance for Great Britain in Tokyo. Although she was also going to play doubles with Johanna Konta, Konta withdrew her name due to COVID-19. Until now, the replacement spot is still vacant.
Also making their maiden entry in the Olympics are Englishmen Dan Evans and Neal Skupski. While the current British No. 1 Evans will also join Murray in the singles competition, Skupski will partner Evans in the men’s doubles event. So far, these are the finalized names for the Great Britain tennis team for Tokyo Olympics.
In a further update, Evans revealed that he tested positive for coronavirus, and so, he would not travel to Japan. Thus, Skupski would have to look for a different partner for doubles.
