“Waste of Time”: Tennis Legend Believes Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Others Falling at Wimbledon Championships is Not a Problem

The Wimbledon Championships 2021 organizers are receiving a lot of backlash, especially regarding their management of the Centre Court. A lot of players, including the likes of Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, have slipped there when they were playing shots behind the baseline. Unfortunately, Serena injured her right leg because of the same, which forced her to withdraw from the Grand Slam.
Even though players like Roger Federer and Serena Williams have admitted that courts are a bit slippery, tennis legend Todd Woodbridge believes that the organizers are not at fault here. In a recent interview, he mentioned that players should learn to adapt to the conditions.
“They’re grass courts, they’re greasy, they’ve had damp weather, and that’s everything that grass-court tennis is about. You have to learn to move on it. We have better technology in the shoes and better technology in the grass. Making some beat up that it’s a major problem is a waste of time,” said Woodbridge in the interview.

Woodbridge clearly stated that it is not the first time players are slipping on a grass court and thus it is a waste of time to say that it is a big problem.
In a tweet, he even highlighted that players should resort to better footwork in order to improve their gameplay on grass.

Have to adjust says Todd Woodbridge after the Serena Williams incident
The scenes of Serena Williams crying at the Centre Court are still fresh in the minds of tennis fans. The 23-time Grand Slam champion was helpless as she couldn’t just play after injuring her leg during the first set.
However, Woodbridge feels that players do fall on the grass courts but they should know how to adjust while playing on the surface.

“It happens every year when someone slips over. You have to adjust, particularly on the centre court. I’ve played an opening match on there. You just have to be prepared. The reality is, had it been 28 degrees on the weekend and hard sunshine, the courts would have changed very quickly,” added the former Australian player.
Fans got some relief after knowing that Serena’s injury is not that serious and she’ll be back on the court soon. However, they are surely disappointed as they won’t be able to see her at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 anymore.
