Shortstop Carlos Correa has now agreed to join the Minnesota Twins with a 3-year deal of $105.3 M. The deal also includes opt-outs after the first two years of the agreement. But recently, a sports insider based in New York has revealed that the New York Yankees were in touch with Carlos Correa until Saturday, March 18, 2022.

But as it turns out, the Yankees felt that Correa’s price tag was quite high. They had their payroll commitments to other players of the Yankees as well. This disagreement paved the way for the Minnesota Twins to swoop past the Yankees and sign the 27-year-old Puerto Rican. The sports insider also said that the discussion between the Yankees and Correa reportedly included a 4-year deal with opt-outs.

“Yankees stayed in contact with Correa through two agents this winter – including yesterday – but never felt that price tag was do-able considering where their payroll is already at, large commitments to Stanton/Cole, upcoming desire to pay Judge,” said Andy Martino, the sports insider via Twitter.

Meanwhile, there were mixed reactions at his now-former home, Houston. Houston Astros’ catcher, Jason Castro, said, that “the guys were hopeful,” when asked about Correa’s agreement with the Twins for the upcoming 2022 season.

On the other hand, teammates like Lance McCullers Jr. posted a video on Twitter thanking Carlos Correa for everything he has done for the Astros, thus giving him a farewell. 28-year-old McCullers Jr. is a pitcher at the Houston Astros. He has been associated with the Astros since 2012, when the Astros drafted him during the 2012 MLB Draft.
