As per Adrian Wojnarowski, DeAndre Jordan expects to clear his waivers with the Detroit Pistons. This will clear his path to join the Lakers, if he can agree on a deal. With this imminent signing of Jordan, there is a lot of uncertainty revolving around the future of the Veteran Center Marc Gasol.
The former All-Star won his first and only championship ring with the Toronto Raptors. They brought him on as a substitute for Dwight Howard, who had signed with the 76ers after finishing his veteran’s minimum contract with the Lakers.
However, now that even Dwight Howard, along with DeAndre Jordan, is looking set to play for the Lakers in the coming season, where is Gasol’s future?

He already became a third fiddle center when the Lakers signed Andre Drummond last season. With Davis facing injuries but Montrezl Harrell and Andre Drummond taking his place on rotation, they bound him to the bench for most of last season.

Return to his homeland?
Like his elder brother, Pau, Marc should ideally also look to return to his homeland. Therefore, he should look to play for the domestic league in his country, Spain. Considering that he is relatively slow for the NBA, a grand closure in his hometown would be the right way to end his stellar career.

Considering that Marc Gasol is 36 years old now, he has reached an age where most players in the NBA consider retiring from their career. If he believes that the NBA is where he deserves to end his career, he should retire in the Lakers. If he does not wish to do so now, he can sit out the rest of his contract with the Lakers. He can simply retire at the end of the season, considering that it is almost certain that he will struggle to get minutes on the court throughout the season.
Moreover, now that both the Gasol brothers have hung up their sneakers from the international game, is it time for Gasol to do the same from his NBA career?

If Marc believes that his career is still not over, he has to fight for his place on the roster. He always has the option of working harder in training to earn his minutes. Many legends like Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Vince Carter played till a much later point in their careers than where Gasol is at present. But is he really a player of the athletic caliber of Bryant or Carter?
