As teenagers, most fans doubted whether WWE superstars Undertaker and Kane were related. However, all those claims were put to rest. Maybe yes, fictionally, they were. But in real life, they were just top-class in-ring performers of the WWE. In the same way, there is another probe into the relation between Olympic figure skaters Nathan Chen and Karen Chen.

The short answer is no, they’re not related. With the duo competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics in China, they are icons for this year’s Olympic Games, and hence a legitimate doubt.
Nathan Chen and Karen Chen are not related
Although their surnames match, both the Chens share no blood relation.
Nathan Chen is the current World Champion in figure skating and one of the best athletes in the world. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Chen had his formal education at the West High School in Salt Lake City. His Chinese parents nurtured him in the States and helped him become able enough to compete at the highest stage. Although they are now settled in the USA, Chen remembers the trips he took to China.

“I remember going to the Beijing Zoo. So, like every time when we’re driving from the (Olympic) Village here, I see the Beijing Zoo and am like, ?Oh, I was here when I was 10. So, it’s kind of cool to be able to see that. Also just hear stories from my mom growing up in Beijing and being like, ?Wow, you know, I’m here,” said Chen.

On the other hand, a two-time CS U.S. Classic bronze medalist, Karen Chen is from Fremont, California. Karen’s parents are not from China but from Taiwan; which is 100 miles away from the Chinese mainland. To sum up, there is no family relation between these two figure skaters. It just happened to be that they share the same surname.
The tale of Chens
While Karen Chen had an unlucky slip during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics short program, Nathan is flying high. He scored a remarkable number of points during his short program training as he is edging closer to his first gold medal at the Olympics. Hence, it would be an impressive achievement for himself and Team USA to grab a gold medal.
