She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. This disappointment might live with her as she is not able to get herself up for this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. With two of her major competitions now in the bag, things are looking bleak for Shiffrin. For what was America’s hope of claiming a guaranteed gold medal is now blown away.

Mikaela Shiffrin crashes out

Coming motivated to prove a point from her earlier dismay, Shiffrin looked pumped heading to the contest. She spoke about getting her focus back in the previous interview while evening loving her boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s bronze medal victory. But, she appeared to have messed up her start, and it became evident from her opening stages. Having got her technique wrong at the first gate itself, she could not go past the second gate.

An angry Shiffrin screamed “Oh my God” and could not believe what happened. Unconsolable, Shiffrin burst into tears after the crash. A rather disappointing end to a promising Winter Olympics for Mikaela Shiffrin. Her coach is seen consoling her after the crash as she could take some time to digest this. It is very rare for a world champion to not muster a scintillating performance. The lack of focus is clearly evident as both her slalom events had weak spots.

A disappointing Olympics

The Giant Slalom competition saw Shiffrin and 22 other competitors failing to qualify for it. Her preparations for this year’s Olympics have not been up to her liking. The pandemic has affected her and is not able to let go of those problems. Hence, she talked about her problems leading to the Olympics.
