The US figure skating events have unfortunately been disappointing so far. Karen Chen had an unusual slip that dampened Team USA’s hopes of winning a gold medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Known for its aesthetical value and complexity, figure skating is a treat to watch. However, things are getting worse for team USA as the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted their squad in the Games.

Despite all the necessary safety guidelines in place, US figure skaters were handed a bitter blow.

US figure skater tests positive at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

American figure skater Vincent Zhou is an upcoming figure skater who is rising rapidly through the ranks. He is the 2019 World Championships bronze medalist and a talented figure skater from the US. Along with Nathan Chen, he is the medal hope for his country, but things are not going as planned. Recently, Washington Post sportswriter Les Carpenter claimed he tested positive and further tests are being done.

“American figure skater Vincent Zhou has tested positive for the coronavirus, USA Figure Skating says. He is undergoing a second test to confirm. If negative he will be able to compete in men’s short program on Tuesday,” said Carpenter.

A disappointing start for Chen

Karen Chen has been in the picture for some time but she spoke about being nervous at this year’s Olympics. She talked in disappointment about the competition and remains determined to make things right.

“I’m definitely disappointed about the loop because I should have hit it and I know I can hit it. If I had a chance to go out there and do it again, I know I can,” said Chen.

Racking up a good score will be key for USA’s hopes of winning medals in the figure skating competition. With ROC dominating the contest, it would be a long way back for Chen and Co to come back and prove otherwise.
