‘I Look Forward to Meeting Bellator Fans’- Khabib Nurmagomedov Provides Update on Islam Mamedov

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke to MMA Junkie and provided some breaking news regarding PFL veteran Islam Mamedov. Chiefly, Mamedov has a resume that 21 fights with a 19-1-1 record, and he’s finally found himself in Bellator MMA. ‘The Eagle’ also went on the reveal that Islam Mamedov is being targeted for an appearance in July.

His promotional debut also happens to be on the same card as Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov’s next fight. However, Bellator MMA officials didn’t provide any confirmation of the same at this time. Khabib Nurmagomedov was certainly excited to have fans in the building to support the athletes under his watchful eye.

“I hope we’ll have fans again in the building in July,” Nurmagomedov stated. “I look forward to meeting the Bellator fans there and supporting Usman and Islam.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov has grown into his role as the Head Coach for fighters hailing out of Dagestan. He picked up the mantle from his father, who was a source of inspiration to all the fighters even after his untimely demise. In fact, Khabib Nurmagomedov is already 4-0 as a Coach and is on the fast track to receiving ‘Coach of the Year’.

Islam Mamedov: Nothing but promise

Mamedov hasn’t stumbled even once in 19 straight fights and has shown the fortitude to be competing at the highest level. He’s a veteran of the sport with a stint in the WSOF organization that added 4-0 to his record. He’s trained alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team for a meaningful period of time and has honed his skills to an elite level.

Islam Mamedov recently competed in the PFL playoff bracket in 2018 and 2019, however, with varying results. He qualified for the play-offs on both occasions, the most recent of which ended in a majority draw. However, his opponent qualified due to a tiebreaker on the judges’ behalf, thus leaving Islam Mamedov out in the cold.

Regardless of the close misses, he’s encountered as of late, Islam Mamedov has the ability to be a championship-level fighter. His training with Nurmagomedov will give him plenty of confidence going forward as he takes on Bellator’s best.
