Sebastian Vettel, the four-time world champion, is back on the track for the first time in a month. Vettel was tested positive for Covid-19 and ended up missing the first two races. But being cleared for the Australian Grand Prix, Vettel is back behind the wheel of his Aston Martin. His outing in FP1 was, however, cut short because of engine failure, which led Vettel to take a moped back to the pits.

Sebastian Vettel is under investigation for riding a moped on track

Sebastian Vettel is back and already under fire with the FIA. After finally being back from his covid hiatus, Vettel took part in the first practice ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. However, the session came to a premature end as he experienced a loss of power. The rear of the car started emitting smoke, which prompted Vettel to use a fire extinguisher from the nearby marshal post.

Once all the cars finished their laps and returned to the pit lane, Vettel headed back to the paddock. Vettel put on a show as he waved to the fans as he rode back after the session.

The whole scenario has put Vettel at risk of receiving a penalty from the FIA. Vettel is already a bit out of touch because of his late entry to this year’s Formula 1 season needs to exploit every second behind the wheel.

With FIA’s decision out anytime soon, it might disrupt Vettel’s plans to get the first point for his team this season.

With the engine failure at the practice, this will be the last thing Aston Martin and Vettel would need before the race. If the first two races are any proof, Aston Martin needs to do a lot of work on their car. Loss of power at FP1 and a potential penalty is surely not a good sign for the team.

On the upside, whatever the punishment might be, it won’t stop Vettel from racing this weekend and that’s exactly what we’re here for.
