There are many takeaways after the conclusion of the first beta weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While a lot of players have complained about various glitches and bugs, there were many positive aspects too. One of these is that fact that Activision dropped various Easter Eggs throughout the game in the beta.
Players found most of the Easter Eggs in the multiplayer map called Cartel. Moreover, a lot of these are related to the campaign and the story line from Black Ops II. There is also one about the classic map Nuketown coming to the game.

The Easter Eggs start as soon as one enters the Cartel map. They are about the return of Raul Menendez in Cold War. Cartel is a map based in a cartel compound of Nicaragua, which is operated by a close associate of Persius, the antagonist of the game. This close associate is none other than popular Black Ops villain, Raul Menendez, who had first appeared in Black Ops II.

The first Easter Egg hinting towards this is a house in the compound which is literally the ‘Menendez House’. Inside the house, there are photos of him, his sister from the Campaign in Black Ops II, and a dead body on the bed. Additionally, the house also has a newspaper and a handwritten note kept on a table.

The newspaper has an article about Jose Luis Menendez. The article also has a photograph that matches the dead body. Jose is Raul’s father and the owner of the house. The note talks about a deal between Jose and a person named ‘Stitch’ about transporting Stitch’s cargo in exchange for helping a member of Jose’s cartel escape from the US.

Jose was killed in one of the missions from Call of Duty: Declassified that had released for the PS Vita. However, Treyarch has reimagined his death in Cold War. This points towards their intention to draw inspiration from the previous BO campaigns and include them in the Cold War multiplayer.
Another fascinating observation is that the date in which the map is set is the exact same one from the mission in which Raul’s sister is killed. All these Easter Eggs point towards the involvement of Raul Menendez in the game. It is going to be a nostalgic moment for all the older Black Ops players who get to relive some moments from the previous campaigns.
