The Terminator recently opened up about his genetic issue in his daily newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club. He shared that his mother, his grandmother, and he suffered from bicuspid valves. Bicuspid valves eventually leak the aortic regurgitation or narrow the aortic stenosis. Due to their Austrian values, Arnie’s mother refused to go through valve replacement surgery. But the Austrian Oak didn’t take the risk and went through his first surgery in 1997.

The only option back then was open-heart surgery, and the doctors assured Arnie that the valves would last for 12 to 15 years. The doctors did a good job, and the valves lasted for 21 years. Then he went for his second surgery in 2018, and by that time, the non-invasive option was available. But there was a screwup at the hospital, and he had open-heart surgery for the second time.

In 2020, he had his third surgery, only to replace his one valve, and his first non-invasive surgery, which was a success. The 76-year-old former bodybuilder never takes his health for granted and always stays well-connected to his doctors. This time his doctor advised him to have a pacemaker, and he went through his fourth surgery on Monday to avoid any complications.

Arnie never fails to inspire and motivate his fans. His decision to share his health journey with the world has been extremely impactful. According to the former Mr. Olympia’s newsletter, discussing medical issues was taboo when he was growing up in Austria.
