Dorian Yates’ Blood n Guts HIT Method

Yates is an active believer in training with extreme intensity, followed by enough rest and recovery. He would push his body to the limits, then give it ample time to recover. Trainers also know this as ‘Progressive Overload‘ or H.I.T. Exercising this way puts maximum pressure on the muscles for the body to adapt. One gets faster results within a shorter duration. Yates credits this method for his Mr. Olympia to win 6 times.

Yates has  named the method  ‘Blood And Guts‘ and rightly so! The 6x Mr. Olympia Winner has come together with Mike Thurston to teach him all about H.I.T. The Instagram reel shows Yates helping Thurston with his set.

With the warm up sets, I usually do two sets between 8 – 12 reps with the weight being approximately 50% and 75% respectively, of the final working set weight.

So with the second warm up, it’s just 8 reps to get the muscles warm and no need to go anywhere near failure… we save that for after!

With the working set, it’s a heavy, controlled set where I help with he last few reps to go failure.
