While there is no denying that the world of fitness and bodybuilding has seen countless deaths due to steroids and PEDs, another truth is that fans and viewers across the world often use their steroids and drug usage to defame these athletes. With the advent of social media, a few people, one can arguably say, have become insensitive and often say things that they would not have said in person.

As the world of bodybuilding is mourning the death of another athlete after getting involved in a shooting incident, there were multiple comments from fans pointing out that it happened due to steroids. Veteran bodybuilder Victor Martinez expressed his displeasure at this while criticizing the hateful remarks.

On Tuesday, two men shot and killed former champion and Brazilian bodybuilder Eustacio Batista Dias during a workout in a gym in Botucatu, Sao Paulo. As Generation Iron uploaded an Instagram post about the same, it received countless comments from fans giving their take on the issue. While it was mentioned in the post that he died after being shot, many people still accused his steroid usage of being the reason behind his sad demise. It is being speculated that the murderers must have come across Batista’s social media, where he revealed his exact location.

The CCTV cameras of the building were able to catch the crime on tape, where one can see Batista attacked and shot at close range before falling to the ground. A bullet hit another man who was present at the crime scene, but he is not in critical condition. While the exact reason behind his murder is still unknown, the caption of the Instagram post by Generation Iron read, “Dias shared his location at the gym to social media and reports believe that the men used this information to find him.“ Commenting on the post, legendary bodybuilder Victor Martinez wrote, “Do the guys that make all these stupid comments about dead bodybuilders even lift? Most like gym tourists.”

Eustacio Batista was a talented and rising bodybuilder. He used to compete in Men’s Physique and won several titles too. To see people bash such a talented athlete for silly reasons made Martinez mad, as he gave his views on the same. While the fitness industry is generally very supportive, the hate comments made Martinez wonder if they even go to the gym or are just insensitive people trying to get attention.

Despite it being clear from the beginning, there were comments like, “Damn. f**king steroids kill everyone, or the vaccine,” and “he was killed because of steroids that’s a fact” that disturbed Victor. Fortunately, Martinez’s message was well-received, and other people resonated with the same sentiment: “Just clowns Victor, trying to be funny,” a reply to his comment read.
