Schwarzenegger wrote that, despite their popularity, fish oil supplements are inferior to their whole-food counterparts. The bodybuilding icon who inherited the same heart valve defect his mother had has also reduced his meat intake. However, due to his steroid use during his bodybuilding days, many fans dismissed the Austrian Oak’s advice.

Arnold Schwarzenegger cited multiple scientific studies to prove the shortcomings of fish oil supplement

The seven-time Mr. Olympia took a comprehensive look at fish oil. The former bodybuilding champion highlighted several scientific studies while writing about the supplement and its shortcomings. Arnie started by comparing studies involving thousands of participants. Studies involving people getting their omega-3 fatty acids from a whole food source showed better results than studies where people took supplements.

The bodybuilding icon also?highlighted that research found?only?“9 percent of supplements meet the recommended intake of combined DHA and EPA.”?Hence, the former Mr. Universe recommended people have fish instead of fish oil supplements.

Earlier, Generation Iron highlighted Schwarzenegger’s advice in a post.?“Arnold Schwarzenegger says eating more fish helps fight cardiovascular disease more than fish oil,”?they wrote. G.I. wrote that fans could read more about Schwarzenegger’s explanation. However, bodybuilding fans cited the seven-time Mr. Olymia’s past health issues to dismiss his advice at face value.

Another made a similar comment.?“This coming from the guy who had 3 heart surgeries?. I love Arnie but come on man?”?the fan wrote. However,?Schwarzenegger’s heart condition is hereditary. Arnie discovered the condition in his early 30s after doctors became suspicious while examining his mother.

Another fan was surprised to hear Schwarzenegger talk about fish oil.?“Thought he was vegan,”?commented the fan. While the former Mr. Universe adopted an 80% vegan diet after his second heart surgery, he didn’t eliminate meat and fish. However, not everyone dismissed the fitness icon’s advice.?“Yes it?s beneficial but whole foods are always better than supplements, this isn?t new information,”?wrote one fan.?“He’s absolutely correct,”?commented another.
