Dorian Yates’ journey from a punk kid to a successful bodybuilder

Dorian Yates recently took to his official Instagram account and shared a few pictures of him from a guest posing event in Brum back in his prime days. They were taken right before he grabbed the win in the Olympia championships for the first time in 1992. Through the post, he shared how that is still his favorite point in his Bodybuilding career.

The Mass Monster wrote,Out of the six I won, the first will always be my favorite. I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey I’d been on, a punk kid from the back streets of Birmingham to the highest peak of the bodybuilding mountain.” He then went about sharing how he would spend three hours doing minimal jobs and would after that hit the gym.

While going to work, he would sit on the bus, look out the window, and dream of his future. He was living in a flat with the bare minimum, but he loved it because it was his own. However, everything changed after his first win. He left his old house and moved into a new one, and also bought a car. He spent fourteen years to become one of the best bodybuilders in history, yet that moment is etched in his heart to date. He once even shared about the years he had dedicatedly worked towards the goal.

Dorian Yates once shared an old picture of himself in the Temple Gym after a workout and said, “In the 1980s and 90s especially, Temple Gym portrayed an atmosphere that would almost force anyone into believing that something special was stirring in the basement gym set in the heart of Birmingham.” Temple Gym did serve as a very significant lubricant in steering his wheels toward success, but it was also his unwavering love for bodybuilding that helped him gain the name.
