Recovering from an injury is a big deal, and doing it properly requires adequate time and patience. Such an example is the former Arnold Strongman Classic champion Hafthor Bjornsson. He got injured in April last year after making his comeback to the sport after a two-year break from his boxing career. But things went south when he tried lifting weights.

Bjornsson tore his pectoral from the bone when he was trying to beat his personal best of 556 pounds at a gym in his hometown Iceland. He heard a snapping sound and screamed in pain when he lowered the weight while doing the bench press. The 35-year-old kept his fans posted about his recovery and previously shared a post on his Instagram showcasing his progress.

The former World’s strongest man captioned the post, “The three stages of recovery.” In the first image, he was seen unconscious at the hospital; the second image showcased him drinking juice; and the last was him leaving the hospital and heading home. But things were not easy for Thor.

In May 2023, the former world’s strongest man got an infection four weeks after his pectoral tore. This infection led him to insert a drainage tube. He also shared images from the surgery and showcased the size of the drainage tube inserted in him. This surgery left a big scar on the former Arnold Strongman Classic champion’s shoulder. After this surgery, Thor has been on his recovery journey.

The 35-year-old started his recovery in June when he posted a video of lifting a much lighter weight. He trained with 5-pound dumbbells, and since then he hasn’t looked back. The Thor then participated in the Arnold Classic Ohio and secured the fourth position. The former world’s strongest man was second at the Arnold Classic UK, lifting 1006 pounds on the elephant bar, showcasing the immense strength he’s known for.
