The entire community showed brotherhood that extended beyond the gym for its beloved athletes.

When the crusader of gym positivity took to his Instagram account to inform the news, he shared a light-hearted moment from his hospital bed. Despite being admitted, he kept a positive and humorous attitude!

Joey Swoll will hit the gym with a light workout

According to his latest Instagram post, the “Surgery went great.”  With this update, he also mentioned that soon, he is going to get back to the gym, but because of his current medical situation, he will only delve into light exercises. Swoll said in his post caption, “a light 10 lbs workout and some walking,” After a full recovery, he would bounce back with a hard-core regimen, just like the old days.

The 47-year-old bodybuilder, while updating about his current situation also expressed amusement, “I think it’s hilarious they make me wear a hairnet when I have no hair!”

Then he revealed about his surgery and said “Finishing off 2023 with surgery this week to fix an umbilical hernia I’ve had since I was a baby.” He had been dealing with a childhood problem, and finally, in his late 40s, he underwent surgery for it.

The popular bodybuilding figure recently suffered pain in his chest, a symptom of what he came to learn was a genetic irregularity in his heart. Rather than ignoring the issue, Joey decided to see a cardiologist. It was revealed that the genetic irregularity in his heart required surgery. This surgery was a life-saving one.

At the end of 2023, Joey posted, “Had a little scare last week finding out I have some genetic irregularities with my heart. I’ve been feeling a little off and having some pain now for awhile and finally decided to stop being a “tough guy” and go get it checked out… I feel great, and my heart is strong as ever. I’m very thankful to my cardiologist… My message to all of you is please, if you’re feeling off, if you’re having some pain, go get checked out! It might be nothing and you’re fine, or it might save your life like it did mine. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”

After he posted the image of himself on Instagram, he received thousands of reactions from fans, including fellow bodybuilders. The reactions from former Mr. Olympias and fans poured in, showcasing the genuine care and concern for the fitness icon’s well-being.

The seven-time Mr. Olympia, Phil Heath, wished him a quick recovery with a humorous touch. He wrote, “Get well soon Brother. Oh, and we will compare gowns and hairnets later haha.” Jay Cutler also joined the force and added, “Get well.” The sixty-year-old Granny Guns was also wished for a speedy recovery, “GET WELL SOON JOEY.”

Apart from fellow bodybuilding enthusiasts, fans were devasted. However, they were also relieved to hear that his surgery went well and that he was on the road to recovery. One user found inspiration in him and wrote, “You got this buddy!! Thank you for everything that you do. You my inspiration!!!” another mentioned, “Glad Everything went well Brother! 2024 is Our Year!!! Thank you for Your Positive Vibes in 2023,” also “Willing you a speedy recovery my Brother.”
