Having Gone Through Suicidal Thoughts as a Teen, 57-Y.O. Bodybuilding Legend Confesses He Still Struggles to Accept His Dual Personality

In the world of professional bodybuilding, few individuals have endured the trials and tribulations that Flex Wheeler has faced. Throughout his remarkable professional journey, life has not always been fair towards Wheeler. He has had his share of medical difficulties throughout his life. Suffering from a series of mental as well as physical traumas, ‘The Sultan of Symmetry’ managed to identify his weaknesses and use them against him.

In a recent Instagram post, Wheeler talks about his dual personality and how it has affected him over the years.

A few weeks back, Wheeler opened up about the dual personality he created during his teenage years to protect him from others, using his weaknesses to target him. Wheeler claimed that, while he as Kenny, refused to fight, his other personality Flex was not scared of anyone. Explaining in detail the same thing, Wheeler revealed in his recent Instagram post, “I stopped being Kenny, in my teens like around 19 years old and start being Flex, so I literally been that guy more, and I honestly don’t want to remember too much of Kenny because it’s not all good.”

Continuing further, Wheeler quoted an anonymous artist saying, “accept what you can’t change and change what you can accept.” This was not the only thing that made Wheeler’s life tough. To make things even worse, the constant injuries and illnesses also made Wheeler weak. He has been open about his dark phase when he was dealing with suicidal thoughts.

Wheeler and his battle with mental health problems

After a forced retirement from the sport due to various kidney problems and a leg amputation, Wheeler definitely was going through a rough patch. Speaking about it, he confessed, “I couldn’t go to sleep because I had dark thoughts about dying.”

He added, “I wondered when people who passed away realized they were not here anymore.” Sharing the experience, he revealed, “I realized I’m not hearing.” However, he soon realized that he didn’t want to live that way.

Wheeler is the epitome of determination. Even after suffering through a series of mental and physical traumas, Wheeler has managed to make his way into the list of best bodybuilders in the history of the sport. He now continues to help and assist other people with their body transformations as a coach and a motivational speaker.
