Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fitness crusade has attracted the attention of hundreds and thousands of people. Even those who haven’t subscribed to his newsletter,?Arnold’s Pump Club,?have shown interest in it. Schwarzenegger’s push to promote the newsletter on social media has also paid off. Yesterday, one such fan on Reddit asked Arnie a loaded question about smoking?“stogies.”?The fan told?Arnold Schwarzenegger?how the habit contradicts his mission and if the?bodybuilding?icon has tried to do something about it.
However, the fan isn’t the first to ask questions about Schwarzenegger’s cigar-smoking habit. In fact, in 1996, the 75-year-old’s then-wife, Maria Shriver, objected to his habit.?Arnie found an alternative?and only smoked outside his home or in the Jacuzzi. Years later, the bodybuilding and fitness icon defended his habit with a succinct argument.

Arnold Schwarzenegger refuses to resort to pretense
The Reddit user who recently watched Arnie’s Netflix documentary?“struggled”?to understand Schwarzenegger’s love for cigars. He then asked a series of questions.?“How do you reconcile this with your mission? Do you worry it dilutes it? Have you tried quitting? If not, then why? Do you worry it will eventually take its toll making all your other positive actions less impactful?”?the fan wrote.
The 75-year-old fitness icon answered all of the fan’s queries. Schwarzenegger said ideally, one shouldn’t?“struggle with what other people are doing”?unless it’s affecting them personally.?“Second, I love stogies. I know they aren?t good for you, which is why I smoke less than I used to,”?Schwarzenegger clarified in his response. He explained that cigars have nostalgic value.

The bodybuilding legend explained that smoking stogies reminded him of?“legends”?who got him into smoking and have passed away,?“not because of cigars.”?Ironically, one of those legends was Maria Shriver’s father, Sargent Shriver.?“Finally, I reconcile it with my mission,”?said Arnie, because he isn’t pretending to dislike cigars. The bodybuilding icon explained that he knows many politicians who loved smoking cigars behind closed doors but never touched them in public.
The Austrian Oak argued if he peddled fitness advice while hiding his smoking habit, no one would take him seriously. Schwarzenegger stated he is not?“perfect”?and does not try to be on social media. This is a trait Schwarzenegger showed while making his documentary as well.
Schwarzenegger wants people to know the whole story
In his recent Netflix docuseries, the seven-time Mr. Olympia showed all three phases of his life. While the limited series celebrated the bodybuilder, movie star, and politician, the 75-year-old also wanted people to know about his mistakes.?“People will remember my success, and they will also remember those failures,”?Schwarzenegger said in the trailer.
