“I Was So Impressed”: Years After They Met, Arnold Schwarzenegger Recalls Swedish Co-Star’s Trick Shot at the Gym That Sealed Their Long-Lasting Friendship

Arnold Schwarzenegger has accumulated a plethora of friends over the years thanks to his strong extrovert personality and talent for pulling practical jokes on others. One such friend is the Swedish actor, Dolph Lundgren, whom he met on the sets of Conan The Destroyer in 1983. Though Lundgren was still a student and fighter it didn’t take long for the Swedish giant to charm the Austrian Oak. He had performed a trick in front of Arnold Schwarzenegger that had left the star in awe of Lundgren on their first meet. They have been friends ever since.

Recently, the two stars met for a workout session with Graham Bensinger. While reminiscing the tales from the past, Schwarzenegger revealed the interesting story of their first encounter.

Earlier today, Graham Bensinger released a YouTube video shot at the Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach. The video featured Bensinger with Swedish actor, Dolph Lundgren, and legendary bodybuilder turned actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Herein, Arnie enthusiastically gave a detailed account of the first impression Lundgren has left on him. The Swedish actor wanted to show a trick to Schwarzenegger and Arnie had agreed.

After getting the green flag, Lundgren brought a can and placed it on top of Arnie’s head. Post that he knocked the can down with one swift kick. He did so without even touching a hair on Schwarzenegger’s head which left the Austrian Oak amazed. Enthusiastically continuing his narration, Schwarzenegger said, “…I was so impressed we all were the kind of thing you got to go in the movies. You can do it in the movies.”

He continued, “This has to be on the screen I mean there’s no one that can do kicks like that this is like really wild and he was also doing serious weights yeah so I mean this is how we met…” However, this wasn’t the only incident the duo recalled from their past.

Further in the interview, on Bensinger’s mention, the actors recollected how Schwarzenegger had “smoked him out of his room” once. The second incident is from when Lundgren was training for Rocky IV. Tired after his training session, the actor was lounging in his hotel room when there was a knock at his room.

Upon asking who was there, a voice revealed that it was his trainer who was there to check on his abs. Narrating the hilarious incident, Lundgren continued, “I’m here to check your Abs. I open the door this man was there with a big cigar and a big smile and charming as usual.” Moreover, this isn’t the first time Lundgren has narrated this tale. The story was also a part of the birthday post, Lundgren had shared while wishing Arnie in 2020.
