Everybody knows about the success story of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The young boy who came from Thal, Austria, to the US and made it his home, excelling in bodybuilding, acting, and politics. A multi-talented man whose exploits are legendary. However, even the lesser-known details about Arnold Schwarzenegger are epic and larger than life. The athlete who never shies away from talking about his love of bodybuilding also keeps a keen interest in chess, skiing, and also swimming. The latter of the ones once came in very handy in saving a person’s life.

Schwarzenegger had turned to politics to help people’s lives. That is exactly what he did in August 2004 when he was the governor of California. The then California governor was in Maui, Hawaii at the time when, out of nowhere, he heard cries for help. Without hesitating, in quintessential Schwarzenegger style, he jumped into the waters to help the distressed man.

Even in his latest Netflix docuseries ‘Arnold’, Schwarzenegger recalled that he joined politics only to help people, to give back what he had earned over the years. It wasn’t only about money, but helping people in every which way he could. Saving a swimmer’s life from drowning is also part of it. Schwarzenegger was staying at the Four Seasons Hotel at the time, and so was Pat O’Brien of Access Hollywood. The incident caught wind in no time, and from one ear to another, it spread like wildfire.

Soon, it added another feather to the cap of the then-newly made California governor. Whether it definitively helped him in his political career is hard to tell. But it surely redefined his image.
