Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger learned about football through his Gold’s Gym buddies. As a man born and raised in Austria, Arine was familiar with soccer and even played it in school. However, when he saw American football for the first time, Arnie couldn’t understand what was going on and he thought that the players were taking too many breaks.

While talking to NFL superstars Jason and Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast, Arnold Schwarzenegger explained he truly learned about the game from his sons. While his fellow bodybuilder friends explained the sport, he developed a genuine interest while watching games on TV with his sons and their friends.

The seven-time Mr. Olympia’s sons played football in elementary and high school and learned all the rules. So, when Schwarzenegger would ask why some things were allowed and others weren’t, they would explain in detail. “So they explained it to me step by step… I learned very quickly how much children love to educate the parents,” Arnold Schwarzenegger told the Kelce brothers.

“We always say don’t do this, do this, do that, no you’re wrong…” said the former Mr. Olympia. Yet, according to Arnie, kids love to explain things to their parents when they get the opportunity. Schwarzenegger recalled how his eldest son Patrick loved it every time Arnie asked him a question. In fact, he would even flex about it to his friends, joked the Austrian Oak.

However, Patrick and Christopher Schwarzenegger weren’t the only ones who taught him to love football. The Terminator star had earlier mentioned his girlfriend Heather Milligan’s influence on his liking towards football.

Although Arnold Schwarzenegger watched football with his sons, he never became a huge fan. However, he liked the sport and always admired the athletes who played it professionally. So when Heather Milligan turned out to be a huge football fan, Arnie got into the habit of regularly watching it.

Milligan is an elite physiotherapist who works with NFL, NBA, UFC, and other athletes. “She is really a fanatic about sports and about especially about football,” said Arnold Schwarzenegger. So now, Milligan is the one answering all of Arnie’s queries. The Kelce brothers also gave Milligan their badge of approval for getting Arnold Schwarzenegger to watch the NFL again.
